ONBOARDING IN A DIVIDED WORLD

ONBOARDING IN A DIVIDED WORLD

Virtual Reality Training is an emerging tool that properly onboards new employees into your organization’s culture. This article will explore how your HR team can deploy immersive 360 videos to set the tone and expectations for onboarding new employees.

We will start with three ways to create 360 training videos to start your culture onboarding. This article will introduce three ways to make this a reality for your team.

I’M RIGHT, AND YOU’RE WRONG

We live in a diverse world, and every voice should feel heard and respected. In America, we have our first amendment that guarantees freedom of speech. In our current social media landscape, new employees will enter your work environment with a mindset that their religious and political ideology is correct.

A perfect example of this is Netflix’s movie called the Social Dilemma. In this documentary, former social media executives point out that users only view hours of content that validate their views. As a result, many onboarding new employees may have lost their ability to empathize with other positions as they feel others are ‘wrong’ and seek to have their voice ‘canceled.’

USING EMPATHY IN VIRTUAL REALITY TRAINING

Many leaders have called Virtual Reality the best empathy tool ever created. Our new immersive reality provides the new employee with the ‘presence’ of feeling like they are elsewhere. In other words, their physical body will be in a safe training area, but their mind (and heart) will feel like they are somewhere else for an empathy training simulation. In addition, the viewer can feel like there are in the presence of someone else.

Todd Brinkman described this as the 360 (VR) Secondary Recipient (Virtual Reality for Main Street). In a nutshell, an onboarding employee can place on a VR headset and feel like they are ‘walking in the footsteps’ of another employee with different gender, race, income status, and hundreds of other scenarios.

FEEL EMPATHY OTHERS

With toPointC’s Virtual Reality training platform, your onboarding process can create a series of immersive empathy videos where new employees can better understand the position of other political views, religions, and gender.

One example could be for male employees to place on a Virtual Reality headset to enter an experience where they feel uncomfortable in a sexual harassment scene at work.

It’s one thing to read a pdf about harassment. It’s another thing when someone feels the emotional pain of something very inappropriate. Let’s use our new tools to help us to respect others in the workplace.
