IMPROVED LEARNING RETENTION

IMPROVED LEARNING RETENTION

Challenges with Traditional Employee Training

Traditional learning methods focus on remembering facts for a test. Many experts are rethinking education as consuming information for a test isn’t learning. Being informed isn’t the same as being educated on a learning topic (Source). In addition, many employees find difficulties in comprehending gigantic amounts of information. Too much information received in a short period can easily overwhelm a learner. As a result, onboarding employees become bored, disengaged, and usually not sure why they are learning about a topic in the first place (Source).

Case Study

Numerous VR Training projects have determined that immersive training increases the amount learned and retained in employee training (Source). Walmart discovered that its VR Training program increased retention by 15% (Source).

Recent research has validated the success of immersive learning and knowledge retention amongst students in VR-based education against traditional education methods. The studies showed that employees via VR-enhanced methods achieved an average of 93 percent on test scores versus 73 percent achieved by those with traditional learning methods (Source).

VR Training is Fun and Engaging

Traditional employee training has been called boring and antiquated. VR Training is radically different as it brings the learner into a VR environment where they can experience training in a fun and engaging manner. This immersive training will help to facilitate a culture of training that will be active and ongoing (Source). As a result, employees will start to fall in love with learning and spark their curiosity for more training (Source). We see this as an opportunity for an organization to create a ‘culture of training.’

More than a Memory Test

Traditional employee training has been around traditional classroom settings where the learner is instructed on auditory and written learning models (8). This older learning style is focused on providing facts that need to be memorized for a test. Many experts now assert that this information consumption is not learning. Being informed of something isn’t the same as being educated on a topic (Source).

VR Training is racially different as it focuses on learning as an act of doing. As a result, it’s not a test of what facts an employee has learned. It’s a teaching method that measures the education level by solving a problem or fulfilling a quest (for example).

Improved Long-Term Retention

VR Training has been shown to support an organization’s employee retention. The increase in long-term retention is due to increased employee engagement, higher performance on their job, and improved productivity levels (Source).

Distraction-Free

VR training provides an immersive environment that effectively blocks out the distractions of the real world. This distraction-free training environment allows learners to concentrate better on the task (Source).

Personalized

Immersive VR learning can be personalized to meet the needs of each learner. Each learning experience is unique and can be undertaken at a level and pace that meets an individual employee’s needs (Source). We believe that the one-size-fits-all learning model is quickly becoming a thing of the past.
